Electronic Material Recycling

Covered Device Recycling Act (CDRA), Act 108 of 2010, established a recycling program for certain covered devices; imposed duties on manufacturers and retailers of certain covered devices; provided for the powers and duties of the PA Department of Environmental Protection for enforcement; established the Electronic Materials Recycling Account in the General Fund; and prescribed penalties. A covered device is a covered computer device and covered television device marketed and intended for use by a consumer.

Batteries, electronic material and household hazardous waste ARE NOT to be mixed with refuse and placed for curbside collection. These items are to be disposed of differently.

Batteries can be placed in a separate battery bag and placed for collection. Residents can pick up a collection bag for proper disposal of dry cell batteries and cell phones at either the Borough Office or by contacting Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA). When the bag is full it can be placed next to the trash container curbside or it can be dropped off at the LCSWMA Household Hazardous Waste Facility.

Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority, Household Hazardous Waste Facility, accepts computers (including peripheral equipment), televisions and cell phones from Lancaster County residents.
