The Public Works Department will be flushing the sewer lines on South Mount Joy Street (between Groff Avenue and College Avenue); Cherry Street (between Spruce Street and the end of the street); and, Lemon Street (between Market Street and the end of the street). This is a routine procedure and will be conducted between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, May 14, 15 & 16, weather permitting.
This flushing event is different from the recent EAWA flushing event. With this flushing event, the sewer lines will be examined via camera to identify areas in need of repairs. The flushing that will be conducted by the Public Works Department relates to the sanitary system. Whereas, EAWA is in the process of flushing the water system as part of their routine maintenance program. For more information on EAWA's line flushing please visit: http://www.etown-water.com/flushing.html.
Please note that while back-ups during the flushing of sewer lines is not the norm, they occasionally do occur. It is recommended residents take extra precautions such as closing the toilet bowl lid and placing a towel or plastic wrap over the bowl.
